EMBS Chapter Past and Present With more than one-fourth of its approximately 8,000 members residing outside of the United States, the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) is the largest international society of Biomedical Engineers in terms of the number of individual members. EMBS has been serving the needs of Biomedical Engineers throughout the world since the early 1950's and through its leadership is striving to develop new ways to serve its members with workshops, publications, and distinguished lecture series. Field of Interest The field of interest of the Society is the application of the concepts and methods of the physical and engineering sciences in biology and medicine. This covers a very broad spectrum ranging from formalized mathematical theory through experimental science and technological development to practical clinical applications. It includes support of scientific, technological, and educational activities. |
