U of A DiscoverE Summer Camp IEEE NCS Call for Volunteers

Dear Members,

We are pleased to inform you that Women in Engineering IEEE Northern Canada Section will be volunteering at the University of Alberta DiscoverE summer camp during from August 11 to August 15 (schedule below).
This is a great opportunity for all IEEE NCS members to support and give a helping hand to the next generation of female engineers.
If you are interested, please respond to by indicating your expertise, date and time you wish to volunteer. For example, Jane Doe, a Mechanical Engineer wishes to volunteer on August 12 from 2PM to 4PM.
Please note the deadline for volunteer registration is July 31, 2014.

Robotics Intermediate; August 11 to 15 2014


Day 1:

  • Intro to Robotics
  • Build a Basic Robot
  • Make your Robot move
  • Intro to Loops
  • Intro to different types of Sensors
  • Build your Sumobot Robot (a free design project to apply what they’ve learned during the day)

Day 2: 

  • Advanced Features (Sensors, switches, etc.)
  • Switches challenge (a short project to apply what they’ve learned about switches so far)
  • Build your Zamboni ( a free design project to build a Zamboni that accomplishes a number of missions)

Day 3:

  • Continue working on your Zamboni
  • Learning advanced programming and debugging tools

Day 4:

  • Robotics Applications (linking what they’ve learned to real life applications)
  • Start their final Robotics project that will be presented during the open house

Day 5:

Continue working on their final project and present it during the open house (4:00 pm-5:00 pm)
